  2. My Topic My topic is how to do a powerpoint detailed presentation About my topic Stuff I have read tells me that the background for my topic includes several important issues that we must understand before beginning to focus on the details (source) Literature Review I read 2 articles for this project, one was an academic paper and one was a reliable source such as a newsmagazine or government document (source) I found two or three major pieces of information that set stage for this presentation and gave me a hypothesis.(source) My hypothesis is that a good presentation is well organized and contains thorough citations.

  3. Our Hypothesis • (State your hypothesis clearly) A good presentation or paper is well organized and has adequate citations • (What are your variables) Organization means that the material we are presenting is • grouped by subtopic • presented in a logical order • Adequate citation means that every time we use a fact or quote or rephrase our sources we assign a reference code or note to let our readers know where this information came from.(source)

  4. Thinking about organization Move from general to specific More on moving from general to specific For our second and subsequent major points about organization we begin with a general statement Support this statement with one or more details Each with its own bullet So that the supporting information is clear and “organized” in a logical progression • For our first major point about organization we begin with a general statement • Support this statement with one or more details • Each with its own bullet • So that the supporting information is clear and “organized” in a logical progression

  5. Liven up details with images • The importance of organization • Summarize the previous main points • Add additional info as necessary(source) A picture is worth a thousand words if and only if it makes your point

  6. Citations are very important!!! What are citations? Example of a graphic using words Journal Article Wilcox, Rhonda V. "Shifting Roles and Synthetic Women in Star      Trek: The Next Generation." Studies in Popular Culture 13.2 (1991):      53-65. Newspaper or Magazine Article Di Rado, Alicia. "Trekking through College: Classes Explore Modern      Society Using the World of Star Trek." Los Angeles Times 15 Mar.      1995: A3. • What are citations? • Citations are a roadmap which your reader can follow in order to find the same information that you used to produce this paper. • Citations may take many forms • Formal (APA) (MLA) • Informal make up your own • This paper may use either APA or MLA

  7. Effect of good organization and citation on student grades Organization Organization Source for table data Source for chart data Remember you may adapt data from an existing table or chart but you may not just copy it into your presentation

  8. Works Cited and Bibliography Works Cited Only contain the sources actually referenced in the presentation/paper Bibliography Includes everything you looked at including your textbook I expect to see the text book in the bibliography
