Diplomas & Graduation Requirements • All students must take Economics & Personal Finance or AP Economics • All students meet their online course requirement through Personal Finance or AP Economics • All students receiving a standard diploma must earn a “certification.” This is part of the Personal Finance class, where student will take the W!SE test

  7. Grade 10 Course Selections • English 10, Academic or Honors • World History 2 or AP World History • Science (usually Biology Acad. or Honors) • Math – follows sequence • HPE 10 • Economics & Personal Finance or Elective • Elective – often a foreign language

  8. Grade 11 Course Selections • English 11 Academic, English 11 Honors, or AP Language • US History Academic, DE US History or AP US History • Science – student’s choice • Math – follows sequence • Economics & Personal Finance or elective • Elective – often a foreign language • Elective

  9. Grade 12 Course Selections • English 12 Academic, DE English 12, or AP Literature • US Government or AP Government • Science – student’s choice • Math – follows sequence • Economics & Personal Finance or Elective • Elective • Elective

Course Levels • Academic – college bound, no weight • Honors – weighted 0.5 quality points • Dual Enrollment – student receives college credit • Weighted 0.5 quality points for rising 11 & 12 • Weighted 1.0 point for rising 10 and younger • Advanced Placement – college credit dependent on AP exam, internationally recognized curriculum, weighted 1.0 quality points

School-Year Level Changes • Level changes will be considered on a case-by-case basis • Many factors are considered: • Student input • Parent input • Counselor input • Overall course load • Teacher feedback • Availability of alternate courses • Post-secondary plans • Individual strengths & weaknesses

School-Year Level Changes • Academic level changes • A class that is “difficult” is not the same as a class that is “too difficult” for a student! • Changing a level often disrupts the student’s entire schedule! • Changing a level is often not possible! • Level-change requests cannot be considered until MP1 interims are distributed

Virtual Loudoun (VL) classes • Online classes provided by Loudoun County Public Schools. • Virtual Loudoun is not an online school • Virtual Loudoun is an online program that may supplement the traditional schedule • Students may take one VL class per school year, and a total of two summer VL classes = for a maximum of 6 VL classes

  22. Virtual Loudoun (VL) classes • Offered three times/year: Summer, Fall, Spring • Students take VL for a variety of reasons: • To “catch-up” or “get ahead” • To take less classes during the school day • To make room for another class

  23. Deadline for Course Requests • June 1, 2018– we cannot make changes to requests after this date!!! • Level Change Days – August 10 & 11 • Summer VL classes

  24. Department Fair in Cafeteria • 6:15pm – 7:15pm • Department chairs and teachers are available to answer your questions about specific courses • School counseling table • This is a great opportunity to ask questions about work load, subject matter, expectations, etc.
