The ADDIE Model for Effective Curriculum Design

The ADDIE model, Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate, originated at Florida State University as a curriculum design process. Initially created for the U.S. Army, it has been adopted by various armed forces. ADDIE is a comprehensive approach to creating instructional plans that foster authentic performance and enhance learning transfer to the workplace.

  1. ADDIE stands for Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate. ADDIE model was initiated by the Fllorida State University to conceptualize a process for designing curriculum and instruction. Florida State University designed Addie Model for the U.S. Army, but shortly after developing and applying the model successfully it adopted by other armed forces of the U.S. During the years, the model has changed and matured. ADDIE represents a detailed procedure for developing a reliable instructional plan to provide effective learning opportunities. Additionally, ADDIE tries to build a sound foundation for authentic performance. Essentially, ADDIE integrates theory and practice and seeks to find strategies for transfer learning to the work.The model was conceptualized in five phases.
