  2. Biographical Information • Born January 29, 1737 in Thetford, England • Dropped out of school at age 12 • Went to sea at 19 • Published “Common Sense” in 1776 • Imprisoned in France for not endorsing the execution of Louis XVL • Died on June 8, 1809 as a “Founding Father”

  3. Career Path • Born in poverty, but still became successful • Author • Pamphleteer • Radical • Inventor • Intellectual • Founding Father of the U.S. • Called “corset maker by trade, journalism by profession, and a propagandist by inclination.”

  4. Major Events • 1776- published The Crisis pamphlet series to inspire Americans • 1777- became secretary of the Congressional Committee of Foreign Affairs • Accompanied Col. John Laurens to France and is credited with initiating the mission of funding the Revolution
