Characteristics of A Healthy Chick • A healthy chick has alert and open eyes. • If the chicks stare away and do not react when someone approaches, it is an indication that they are not well. • Also, the legs of a healthy chick are straight and towering. • Crooked legs can be a sign of deformities. • They may not necessarily be an indication of sickness, but they can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition.

  7. Maintenance of Poultry House • The poultry house should be free of any litter. • Regularly cleaning the coop ensures a healthier environment for chicks. • Sanitization and disinfection of the entire poultry house are necessary. • Some farmers fumigate the house before bringing the chicks. • The brooders are adjusted to the desired temperature one day before the chicks arrive.

  8. Lighting In Broiler House For Broiler Farming • Broiler houses must provide 24 hours of light during the brooding time of broiler farming. • The pattern followed is 23 hours of white-light followed by an hour of darkness daily till they are ready for marketing. • The one-hour dimness is to acclimatize the birds towards the dark to prevent panic and stampede in case of power failure.

  9. Feeding In Broiler Farming • The feed must have adequate nutrition. • It must contain a sufficient quantity of vital nutrients. • An insufficient amount of nutrients leads to poor conversion-rate and lower profit. • Besides regular proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals, feed must also have micronutrients in adequate amounts.

  10. Vaccination of Broilers • Broilers must be vaccinated periodically to protect them from diseases like any other livestock. • They are vaccinated right from the first day of hatching till the 28th day.

  11. Security In Broiler Farming

  12. Checking For Development Of Disease • The birds are checked manually for the development of disease symptoms time and again. • Dead birds are to be disposed of immediately in a humane way.
