Canada's Navigational Warning Issuing System (NIS) Overview

Canada's Navigational Warning Issuing System (NIS) was implemented in 2019 to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the NAVWARN service. The NIS allows for consistent creation, issuance, and publication of Canadian NAVWARNs through international and national systems. It offers benefits such as formatting NAVWARNs into international standards, translation into English/French, dissemination to stakeholders, and integration with maritime information services. The NIS home page and recent additions to the system provide enhanced features like exporting NAVWARNs to different formats, deactivating certain series, and simplifying user interfaces. Upcoming changes include integration with the Aids to Navigation Program Information System (SIPA) and incorporation of NAVAREA warnings.
