  5. NASF Aviation Survey Results Why? • (15) State/Compact exchanges need to remain in place • (2) Current National System does not allow states to maintain control of release/return of resources • (2) Current National System does not provide access to many available resources

  6. NASF Aviation Survey Results Why Not? • There are limited aerial resources available for long distance sharing • State aircraft are limited to initial attack and not for extended attack • (2) Would be easier if state & compact resources could be dispatched via National System • (2) Federal resources are locally available

  7. NASF Aviation Survey Results What changes could be made to the national interagency mobilization system to improve states’ ability to share aviation resources? • (6) Allow states to accept aircraft that meet FAA & Safety standards but don’t meet USDA or DOI standards • (4) Need to be able to list state/compact resources in ROSS system • (2) Acceptance of state qualifications and policies by federal agencies • (2) Don’t want National Mobe System to control state assets • Standardized aircraft inspection process • Improve access to military resources • Uniform aviation policies and procedures • Pre-season carding of aircraft

  8. NASF Aviation Survey Results Does your state feel comfortable sharing aviation resources between states under current “Compact to “Compact statutory language? • Yes – 20 • No- 4 • N/A- 2

  9. NASF Aviation Survey Results If your state is not comfortable, why? • Issue with locating, tracking, billing for resources. • Issue with mixing resources that meet different standards (federal and state/compact) • (2) No statutory language for inter-compact resource sharing.

  12. (7) Efficient reimbursement (5) Liability issues (2) State needs to retain control of its aviation assets for release/return (2) Safety standards by the sending agency (2) Transportation of aircraft over great distances Maintaining availability of aircraft within own state Accelerated maintenance time for equipment Replacement of materials and parts used by other states Need to conform to national interagency standards Issues with contract pilots and associates relating to out of state travel authority Would like to be part of a compact

  13. NASF Aviation Survey Results Is your state willing to share aviation assets with other states for missions other than Wildfire suppression? (i.e., non-emergencies, management work, fuels, prescribed burning) • Yes – 12 • No- 6 • N/A- 7
