  4. The WHAT of the workshop • CS4HS is a Google funded workshop to expose “secondary” teachers to computing. • Many different formats/topics offered at several dozen locations around the country • This week’s workshop will focus on Scratch (more on that in a bit).

  13. The WHY of this workshop (Dr. Schafer’s opinions) • Teachers are better able to convey their subject(s) when they can approach the material through a variety of techniques and modes.

  14. The WHY of this workshop (Dr. Schafer’s opinions) • Children don't get ideas; they make ideas. Learners are particularly likely to make new ideas when they are actively engaged in making some type of external artifact – be it a robot, a poem, a sand castle, or a computer program.
