2. The beginning of Lily’s dreamy journey • (Lily was talking…) One day, our social studies teacher, Ms. Fu, told us the beauty of our hometown, Miaoli. My classmates and I really loved her words for Miaoli. Later, I took a nap at noon ,and my soul flew out of my body. I had a dream of a hometown trip. Wow! I visited six townships of Miaoli. Where did I visit? What did I do? What was on my mind? Do you wanna know? Why don’t you follow me to my dreamy journey!!!

4. Gong Guan – Saturday Night Market • My soul is going out of my school in Gong Guan Township. It is famous for a very big night market. Here my parents, brother, and sister just had fun last week. My brother liked fried chicken steak, my sister enjoyed pig’s blood cake, and my parents loved fried bread stick with almond juice. They were all very delicious. 5. Shi Tian – Spiritual Hole Temple • My soul paid a visit to “Ling Dong Gun” (Spiritual Hole Temple) on the mountain, Xian Shan (Devine Mountain). I remembered! My parents often took me here to enjoy the yummy cold “herbal” jelly” in hot summer before. Besides, herbal jelly dumplings were available only here in Taiwan. In winter, hot herbal jelly would be sold and people like it. What a surprise! People love herbal jelly both in summer and in winter. Go back to the map Worksheet Focus sheet

6. Nan Zhuang – Trout! Trout! Trout! • Clear water, clear flowers, clear dear … mountains. Nan Zhuang! I am coming. Nan Zhuang is a mountainous township. Therefore, there is no factory and no pollution. My family used to have a big trout meal here. We had steamed trout, fried trout, trout sashimi, and trout miso soup. 7. Tai An – Hot Spring • My soul came and thought it was very funny: we don’t enjoy spring in the season of spring. We just do it in winter. Tai An township is the biggest one in Miaoli. But the amount of the residents here are the fewest. That’s OK. When winter says “hello” and “I’m here” , we become people in Tai An and enjoy hot spring with cute residents here. The hot spring can make skin more beautiful. But this is not the main point to me. I almost can’t escape from the attack of the cold winter. 8. DaHu – Red, red strawberries • My soul drifted to Da Hu Township. This cute place is full of my “little-girl” memory. I loved to eat strawberries just like a crazy guy when in kindergarten. Also, I ate strawberry jam, wore clothes with strawberry icons , and slept with strawberry-shaped pillows. My mom laughed and said I was the daughter of strawberry, not hers. • Da Hu is a happy place of farmers and travelers. Farmers are happy to grow strawberries . 9. San Yi – Wood-carving • My soul came to this township with the fragrance of wood. Oh, I saw some familiar josses here. When I was three, my family moved to our new house. Father came here for better decorations. He picked some and brought them home. The josses were my friends in our house. This time there were more “friends” on the street.
