Marking and tracing Activities • Project “Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean” 2009-2014 • 25 States Parties, 280 persons trained, 287,000 firearms marked • National Experts Working Group - “OAS Firearms Standards: Marking and Recordkeeping” • 24 experts representing 15 States Parties • 2 rounds of revision and final draft • Final version presented at the 2016 session of the Consultative Committee • Assessment visits on marking and tracing systems • Objective: Analyze progress and identify support requirements • Conducted jointly by the Department of Public Security of GS/OAS and Small Arms Survey • Participation by Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras (SAS only), Jamaica, Uruguay

Stockpile Management and Destruction • Program of Assistance for Control of Arms and Munitions (PACAM): • Supported Costa Rica y Guatemala • Destroyed: • 2.831 firearms • 108,691 units of ammunition (2 metric tons) • Fifty Demining and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Course • Offered at the International Demining Center by Ministry of Defense of Spain in collaboration with PACAM and OAS Mine Action program • 12 technicians trained in 2016; total of 85 from 14 States Parties since 2011 • PACAM Regional Office based in Managua forced to close in March 2016 for lack of funding • Between 2007 and 2016, PACAM supported destruction of: • 1.702 metric tons of munitions • 62.050 firearms
