  3. History • X.500-based white pages early ’90’s • Paradise project (EU funded)-> • NameFLOW/Paradise (EU funded) -> • NameFLOW service (DANTE) • http://www.dante.net/nameflow/ • Central knowledge repository for finding other countries DSA’s • Recently moved from X.500 to LDAP

  4. NameFLOW now • LDAPv3 referral server • Exchange of LDIF files • Experimenting with indexing in TF-LSD (http://www.terena.nl/task-forces/tf-lsd/) • Mainly white pages, certificates are being added • (e.g. http://ldap.gigacorp.nl/pkildap.html) • Advanced countries: Nordic, ES, DE, NL

  5. Naming scheme • X.521 predominant : o=University of Amsterdam, c=NL • Domain component rising : dc=uva, dc=nl • Need for mapping between parallel DITs

  7. Indexing • Based upon Common Indexing Protocol (CIP, RFC2561) • Locally generated indexes (TIO’s, RFC2654) or centrally crawled • Loaded into LDAP server • Minimum info centrally • Entire entries thru referrals • S/w available (DESIRE, SURFnet, Ericsson)
