  1. Be Who God Wants You to Be

  2. Introduction Most children have dreams of being great or doing something noble (pro athlete, movie or rock star, doctor, nurse, teacher). Parents may have unfulfilled dreams that they want their children to pursue. The world, people from school or work may put pressure on you to be rich, be popular, drink alcohol, do drugs, and don’t be outspoken about what the Bible says. But what about what God wants you to be?

  3. Introduction You have a right to pursue a career or job based upon your talents, abilities, and opportunities as long as it doesn’t violate the Scriptures. But what is our main purpose on earth? God has created us in His image and He has a right to tell us what to do. God wants mankind to “fear Him and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man” (Eccl. 12:13).

  4. Be who God wants you to Be… in the Use of Your Time We have likely wasted a lot of time giving place to the devil and not putting God’s word first in our heart as Jesus did. (Eph. 2:1-3; Matt. 4:3-11) Thankfully, God in His mercy and love had a plan for us to be forgiven of our sins and fulfilled it at the right time through His Son’s precious blood.(Eph. 2:4-7; Gal. 4:4-5; Rom. 5:6-9; 1 Cor. 6:9-11)

  5. Be who God wants you to Be… in the Use of Your Time We must make the best use of our time to know God’s will because the days are evil (Eph. 5:15-17; 2 Tim. 2:15). Since the days are swiftly passing towards eternity, we must prioritize and put God’s will first above our desires (Ecc. 9:9; Ps. 90:10; Lk. 9:23; Mt. 6:33) Are you punctual in your life and fulfilling your responsibilities to God?

  6. Be who God wants you to Be… in Your Attitude We are told to have the attitude of Christ who was humble and obedient (Phil. 2:5-8). We should be grateful instead of grumbling so that we can shine forth as lights in the world (1 Th. 5:18; Phil. 2:14-15). When people don’t give thanks or honor God, He gives them over to sinful choices and its consequences (Rom. 1:21-32). God is opposed to the proud but gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5).

  7. Be who God wants you to Be… in the Use of Your Money God demands that we be good stewards of the wealth He has given us (Luke 16:1-14). Too many are in debt so that they can’t fulfill their responsibility to provide for their house, give on the first day of the week to support the Lord’s work, or help the needy. (1 Ti. 5:8; 1 Co. 16:2; Ep. 4:28; Ga. 6:10) “The wicked borrows and does not pay back, but the righteous is gracious and gives”. (Ps. 37:21)

  8. Be who God wants you to Be… in Your Worship By coming today, you are reminded that God is faithful in keeping His promises so that we can hold fast to our faith & encourage each other to love & good works (Heb. 10:23-24). God forbid that we should become bored so that we forsake assembling together with the saints. (Heb. 10:25) When we truly realize what Christ’s sacrifice means to us, we will remember His death reverently, sing joyfully, give cheerfully, pray earnestly, and examine the Scriptures with readiness to receive it!

  9. Be who God wants you to Be… in His Service Because of God’s mercies toward us, it is reasonable to offer our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice to Him (Rom. 12:1). We should serve Him daily by being evangelistic, hospitable, charitable, etc. (2 Tim. 2:24-26; Rom. 12:13; 1 Jn. 3:16-18) Let us sanctify ourselves so that we can be useful in His service, prepared for every good work He would have us to do (Eccl. 12:13).

  10. Be who God wants you to Be… in Your Family Relationships If you are married, remember to keep your vows to your spouse and fulfill your responsibilities before God (Eph. 5:22-34). Too many have failed and the result has been destructive to children and the cause of Christ! Parents, praise your children when they do right but correct them when they err with God’s word as your guide (Eph. 6:4; Heb. 12:11). You must love your family but if there is a conflict over a matter of the faith, Christ must come first (Matt. 10:34-37).

  11. Conclusion We all likely had dreams of what we wanted to be when we grew up when we were young and if God wasn’t in our plans then it was vain. Are you being who God wants you to be in your life or are you aimless? Have you wasted many precious years serving yourself, if so, it is not too late to come home to the Lord and obey the gospel (2 Cor. 6:2). Are you being who God wants you to be having a humble attitude like Christ or are you constantly complaining?

  12. Conclusion Are you being who God wants you to be by being a good steward of your finances or are you a slave to your borrowing institution? Are you being who God wants you to be in having a joyful attitude towards worship or are you bored with it? Are you being who God wants you to be in His service or do you serve yourself? Are you being who God wants you in your family relationships or have you forgotten your vows? If you have failed in any or all of these areas, as a Christian, you can repent and receive forgiveness of sins and begin to “Be Who God Wants You to Be”!
