  3. Communication • Can be used as an assistive communication device • Is portable for community use • Is a more socially acceptable communication device • More widely understood than Sign Language

  4. Academic Skills • Helps to maintain academic skills • Apps for reading, writing, and math • Animated story books for literacy skills • Fine motor games and activities

  5. Thematic Units • Enhances learning to go along with our thematic units in the classroom • Exposes students to things they might not get to experience • Provides more examples of items in our thematic units (music, dinosaurs, plants, etc.)

  6. Recreation • The most popular use! – engages students who have a difficult time choosing leisure items • Games, animated storybooks, music; the options are infinite and change daily! • Promotes socialization among peers

  7. Future Plans • The technology is constantly changing and adapting as more and more apps are released • Will continue to use it for thematic units • Continue to explore emotional regulation • Use social stories personalized with pictures
