  13. 14 February is a special day for people who have a secret romance. Be careful on the night of the 31 October. This is the night when witches and ghosts come out. They send each other romantic cards. They write a message inside, or perhaps a poem. But they don’t write their name – that’s a secret. Sometimes, people also give presents – some flowers or chocolate. They dress up in white sheets and masks and have parties. Sometimes, they go to people’s houses and knock on the door, saying “Trick or treat!” The person who receives the card must guess who it is from. The person who opens the door must give the children a treat – some sweets or chocolate. If not, the children play a trick on them. Children make lanterns out of pumpkins.
