  1. Session #57 Introducing the FSA ID - The FSA PIN Replacement Catherine Metcalf | Dec. 2014 U.S. Department of Education 2014 FSA Training Conference for Financial Aid Professionals

  2. Introducing the FSA ID The FSA ID will modernize access for students, parents, and borrowers to FSA systems • FSA is adopting the best practice of using a username and password instead of personal information • The FSA ID • Requires users to enter less information (2 fields instead of 4) • Provides more secure access to user’s information • Links to PIN information during registration • Allows users to update personal information such as last name changes without applying for a new FSA ID (Lifetime ID) • The FSA ID (Username and Password) will replace PIN for students, parents, and borrowers accessing FSA systems starting in late Spring 2015. New FSA ID login Old PIN login on Studentloans.gov

  3. Introducing the FSA ID Users still click the Sign In button. This directs them to the FSA ID login page. Once they enter their FSA ID, they are directed back to the website landing page

  4. FSA ID Live Demonstration

  5. Introducing the FSA ID • What happens for a new user? • Registration requests the same required information as PIN • New users will be directed to the registration page to create an FSA ID (Username and Password) similar to today’s PIN creation page • What happens if a user has a PIN already? • During account creation, the user will be asked for their PIN • As long as the PIN information matches their other information, the account will be linked to the FSA ID account • There will not be a mass migration of PIN information. Individual student, parents, and borrowers will transition to FSA IDs as they come back to interact with FSA systems

  6. Introducing the FSA ID • Will students and borrowers be able to access their previous FAFSA and loan information ? • Yes. The FSA ID will allow a student or borrower to access all the information that they can today with a PIN • Will Customer Support change? • The customer help desk which currently supports the PIN, will support the FSA ID. • Will school and other professional access to student and borrower information be affected by the change to FSA ID? • No. The FSA ID is for students, parents, and borrowers to login to FSA’s student and borrower-based websites

  7. Introducing FSA ID For more information about the FSA ID and a demonstration of the new functionality, please attend one of the three Introducing FSA ID sessions Introducing the FSA ID - The FSA PIN Replacement • Protecting personal information for students, parents, and borrowers begins with their initial login • Learn about the new FSA ID that will replace the current FSA PIN starting Spring 2015 as the means to login to FSA public facing systems • This session will include a demonstration of the new functionality for creating and managing an FSA ID, along with logging in to FAFSA on the Web, StudentLoans.gov, and NSLDS Student Access Day, time, and location: Day 1, Tuesday, 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. A312 Day 3, Thursday, 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. B304 Day 4, Friday, 12:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Sidney Marcus Auditorium
