  1. BIM(Building Information Modeling)

  2. What is BIM? • BIM is a 3D modeling tool and process that is bridging the gap of communication between engineers, contractors, and project managers in the construction industry. • BIM is a 3D modeling tool that incorporates time, materials, and equipment • BIM is also a process that different parties can use to collaborate together

  3. Why Use BIM? • BIM is a single 3D database (No longer a need to carry physical plans) • Real time changes can be made by designers • Conflicts can easily be dealt with before they affect budget/schedule • Creates better relationships with client, designers, contractors, and project manager

  4. Why Use BIM(cntd.) ? • With BIM the classic problem of having different engineering disciplines “overlap” their plans is a ting of the past. • At the end of construction, the client will have easy maintenance of the building, considering the location, type, and lifetime of equipment and utility lines can all be found

  5. Application of BIM • The application of BIM in our company was simple

  6. Our Experience With BIM • BIM has helped our company saving money and increasing efficiency • The slow process of catching a problem from 2D plans, writing an RFI, and processing a change order is a thing of the past • We have also experienced an increase in client and designer relationships considering we are all using a single point of data entry • Lastly, we have experienced less problems between our designers due to real time adjustments we can make

  7. Our Experience With BIM (cntd.) • We also have had no problems with the sharing of our BIM information because BIM has already taken into account that everyone might not have the same computer power • To combat this problem, the normal 100 GB size of our BIM file is not completely utilized when the file is opened, only 3-10 GB’s are used so that any computer can handle reading BIM
