  2. WHERE IS RIO DE JENERIO? Rio de Janerio is a city located in Brazil. Rio is the capital city of the State of Rio de Janerio. Rio de Janerio is the second largest city of Brazil and the third largest metropolitan area and agglomeration in South America.

  3. HISTORY Rio de Janeiro, was discovered on January 1, 1502 by Portuguese navigators who mistook the entrance of Guanabara Bay for the mouth of a river (Rio). Sixty-three years later, on March 1, 1565, the city of Rio de Janeiro was officially founded by the Portuguese.

  4. FACTS Rio de Janerio is the 26th largest city in the world with a population of 6,093, 472 as of 2008. It is considered one of the main tourist destinations in the Southern Hemisphere and is famous for its beaches, Carnaval celebration, and various landmarks such as the statue of Christ the Redeemer. Rio receives about 2.8 millions visitors per year.

  5. INFORMATION The International Olympics Committee selected Rio de Janerio to be the location of the 2016 Summer Olympics. It will be the first South America city to ever host the Olympics.
