Descriptive Language STANDARDS: Category 3- Literary Analysis Grade 3 LA.3.2.1.7 The student will identify and explain an author’s use of descriptive, idiomatic, and figurative language (e.g., personification, similes, metaphors, symbolism), and examine how it is used to describe people, feelings, and objects. Descriptive Language (e.g., mood, imagery) Figurative Language (e.g., simile, metaphor, personification)

  2. Descriptive language is… words that create a mood, feeling, or picture for the reader. It helps the reader imagine how something looks, sounds, smells, tastes, or feels.

Mood, Feeling & Imagery: Day 1Think about our words that we used to describe an apple:red, shiny, round, smooth, sticky, firm, sweet, crisp, fresh, tart, juicy, crunchy.Can you close your eyes and imagine an apple while thinking of those words?What kind of mood or feeling do you think of when you read those words?What if we wanted to create a spooky feeling about apples? What words could we use? (Think about the apple that Snow White was given).
