  2. BESTProgram 20144 countries - 4 clusters - 3 cultures 3 weeks - 3 weekends • France, Spain, Italy , Monaco • Study and work with German students • Learn French • Attend lectures • Visit top French-based European companies in cosmetics, high tech, food and beverages, arts and culture.

  3. BEST • 4 countries: Stay in France and visit Spain,Italy, andMonaco during weekends • 3 weeks: attend lectures and visit companies • 3 weekends: have fun visiting Barcelona, Paris, Marseille, Monte Carlo, Sanremo and more • 3 cultures: work in teams with German students and experience daily life in France

  4. 3 WEEKS: WHEN? Departure from USA: May 27, 2014 Return home: June 17, 2014

  5. 3 Weeks: Where? • Aix-Marseille Université • Located in Aix-en Provence

  6. 3 Weeks in Aix-en-Provence • Near Marseille airport and with own TGV train station • Small town, with all sites within walking distance • Long history: Romans were here! See the Roman baths (Aix comes from aqua = water) • Rich culture:Van Gogh, Cezanne, Picasso • Climate in May/June: 70-80 F

  7. 3 Weeks: Accommodations • In dorms with shared cooking facilities. • Single occupancy with private bathroom. • University dining hall around the corner.

  8. 3 Weeks: Lectures and Site Visits • Lectures on International Management, International Marketing, Economics • Classes taught in English • Classes on French and German culture • French language course (beginner level and advanced level) • Cross-cultural team work: group assignments with German students • Visits to French companies in the area like Occitane, Eurocopter, ITER etc. according to important clusters • Visits to sites and museums

Clusters and Companies • Cosmetics Cluster: • L’OCCITANE en Provence in Manosque or • Fragonard in Grasse • Food/Beverages Cluster: • Agriculture in Avignon • Calissonsd'Aix • Wineries • Haute Cuisine • Haribo in Uzès • Arts and Culture Cluster: • Euromediteranee • Aqueduct Pont-du-Gard • High Tech Cluster: • Eurocopter in Marseille • ITER (=International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor; Nuclear Fusion Research Centre in Cadarache) • Port of Marseille • Solar energy plant • LFoundry in Rousset

  10. 3 Weeks: A Typical Day Either • 09:00-10:00 French class • 10:15-11:15 Lecture on International Management • 11:30-12:30 Lecture on International Marketing • 14:00-17:00 group work with German students Or • 09:00 Leave for company visit • 10:00-12:00 company visit 1 • 14:00-16:00 company visit 2 • 16:00-18:00 sightseeing in the area • 19:00 back to dorm

  11. 3 Weekends: Where? • Paris (by TGV, the fast European train) • Barcelona (by bus) • Monte Carlo (Monaco) and Italy along the French and Italian Riviera (bus)

Academic Credit: 3 units BUAD 499 International Business students : • Seniors and Juniors may count BEST as their required business internship (catalog years 2009 and earlier) not as the required language internship • Freshmen and sophomores may count BEST astheir required global awareness coursebut not as the business internship option Business students: have a choice of counting BEST as either their required global awarenesscourse or as an elective in their concentration. .

Academic Credit: 3 units BUAD 499 Exceptions:  • Accounting and ISDS majors must pick the option "required global awareness;" for them, BESTcannot count as an elective in their concentration • Economics majors must pick a 300-level elective ONLY (not a 400-level elective) • Finance majors can choose BEST as an elective or in lieu of FIN 370 for the joint emphasis in Accounting/Finance • Management majors must have the general management emphasis to count BEST as an elective.  Any other emphasis within management must get approval from the department chair.  Global awareness is fine. • Marketing majors can choose BEST as an elective in their concentration

  14. Costs • $ 2,700 for the BEST program • $ 2,200 with $500 student scholarship if you register before December 13th. • Registration must be confirmed with a $500 down payment. • Does include: all BEST lectures, all European travel, accommodation, visits, sightseeing and few sponsored meals. • Does not include: • CSUF tuition for summer school: plan on $1,950 for up to 6 units. • Airfare for international transfer (estimated cost $1,500+) • Individual breakfasts, lunches and dinners, plus other personal expenditures (typical range is $900-$1,500-but it varies) • $180 security deposit
