  2. U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Frank Denault, a squad leader with 2nd Platoon, Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 2 (RCT 2), hands candy to an Afghan girl during a census patrol in the Sangin district of Helmand province, Afghanistan, Jan. 17, 2011. The Marines conducted patrols to suppress enemy activity and gain the trust of Afghan citizens. The battalion was one of the combat elements of RCT 2, whose mission was to conduct counterinsurgency operations with the International Security Assistance Force.
