    3. Identifying the Lords Church

    4. Identifying the Lords Church When it comes to identifying the Lords church not everyone has the same attitude. Some want to be entertained Some are seeking answers to lifes questions Some are searching for truth Some are looking for handouts Having the right attitude is vital for that is the hinge upon which the door is opened to Gods message for them! Psalm 119:10; Matthew 6:33; 7:7-8 Psalm 119:10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.Psalm 119:10 With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

    5. Identifying the Lords Church The right attitude includes: Submission to Gods divine plan Romans 8:7-8; 10:3; James 4:7 Denial of self and willingness to fully commit Matthew 16:24; Luke 9:23,57-62 Faith justified through active obedience James 1:20-26 When one has the right attitude in searching for the Lords church, then one will surely know when it has been found! Romans 8:7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to Gods law; indeed it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God Romans 10:3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to Gods righteousness. James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus told his disciples, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. Luke 9:23 And he said to all, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 6. Identifying the Lords Church The word church in the N.T. comes from the Greek word ekklesia which has the simple meaning of a calling out of and was used among the Greeks as a body of citizens gathered to discuss the affairs of the state as seen in Acts 19:39. In the Septuagint it is used to designate the gathering of Israel. In Acts 7:38 it is used of Israel and in Acts 19:32,41 of a riotous mob. Acts 19:39 But if you seek anything further, it shall be settled in the regular assembly. Acts 7:38 This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mt. Sinai, and with our fathers Acts 19:32 Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had come together. Acts 19:41 And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.Acts 19:39 But if you seek anything further, it shall be settled in the regular assembly. Acts 7:38 This is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mt. Sinai, and with our fathers Acts 19:32 Now some cried out one thing, some another, for the assembly was in confusion, and most of them did not know why they had come together. Acts 19:41 And when he had said these things, he dismissed the assembly.

    7. Identifying the Lords Church 2 Uses in reference to N.T. Christians: The whole company of the redeemed throughout the present era, the company of which Christ said, I will build my church Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:23-24 A company or congregation consisting of professed believers Acts 20:17,28; Romans 16:1,5; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; 1 Timothy 3:5 Understanding the difference is vital and can be done when seen in its context. Matthew 16:18 I will build my church Ephesians 1:22-23 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which his body Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ Acts 20:17 Now from Miletus he sent to Ephesus and called the elders of the church to come to him. Acts 20:28 Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. Romans 16:1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae Romans 16:5 Greet also the church in their house 1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God that is in Corinth 1 Thessalonians 1:1 To the church of the Thessalonians 1 Timothy 3:5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for Gods churchMatthew 16:18 I will build my church Ephesians 1:22-23 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which his body Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Romans 16:1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae Romans 16:5 Greet also the church in their house 1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God that is in Corinth 1 Thessalonians 1:1 To the church of the Thessalonians 1 Timothy 3:5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for Gods church

    8. Identifying the Lords Church May it be understood that people might join or associate themselves with a local church in the sense of identifying with a local company of Christians but when it comes to joining the universal body of Christ it is God who does the joining. Acts 2:47; 9:26 Let us notice some other biblical terminology that describes the process of joining the church: Acts 2:47 And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 9:26 And when he [Paul] had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.Acts 2:47 And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 9:26 And when he [Paul] had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple.

    9. Identifying the Lords Church being saved Acts 2:47; Ephesians 2:5 being born again John 3:3 became obedient to the faith Acts 6:7 crucified the old self Romans 6:6 put on Christ Galatians 3:27; Romans 13:14 have received reconciliation Romans 5:11 baptized into Christ Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:27 There are others but understand this we are added to the church when we are saved.

    10. Identifying the Lords Church We are added to the church the same way that people were joined to the church in the New Testament revelation. Nothing has changed: The problem is the same Romans 3:23 The consequences are the same Romans 6:23 The remedy is the same Romans 3:24-25 Since the problem, consequences and remedy is the same, the process of getting saved (being added to the church) must be the same as well! Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord Romans 3:24-25 and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith.

    11. Identifying the Lords Church The Gospel must be preached and heard! Romans 1:16-17; 10:13-17 The Gospel must be accepted by faith! Hebrews 11:6; Galatians 2:16 True faith in Christ will produce an active response in obedience to Gods call! Confession, Repentance, Baptism (dying with Christ) & a life of faithful service to God! Acts 2:27-47; 5:14; 9:31; 11:26; 16:25-34; Romans 1:16-17 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith. Romans 10:13-17 READ Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Galatians 2:16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. Acts 2:27-47 READ Acts 5:14 And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women. Acts 9:31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. Acts 11:26 For a whole year they met with the church [Antioch] and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. John 3:29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. We wait and hold fast until the Bridegroom returns to deliver His kingdom to the Father. 1 Timothy 6:14-15 Only members of the Lords church are given assurance all others are warned of wrath. Christ and his body are inseparably connected what is available in Christ cannot be gained outside the church. 1 Timothy 6:14-15 to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords..1 Timothy 6:14-15 to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords..

And he went to the first and said, Son, go and work in the vineyard today. 1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. Isaiah 5:2 Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a very fertile hill.
