This document outlines the vocabulary and key concepts for the second semester of Algebra 1, focusing on quadratic functions. Students will engage in daily assignments, covering exponents, polynomials, and quadratic equations. Each day's topic is listed, along with essential terms such as vertex, axis of symmetry, and the quadratic formula. Understanding these concepts is vital for mastering quadratic functions and solving related problems. Remember to turn in your work and bring your textbook on Monday!

Semester Plan You need one to two pieces of paper out. Place your name at the top of the paper and title according the listing below of the day. • Tuesday : Chapter 8 Exponents #1-12 • Wednesday: Chapter 9 Polynomials #1-10 • Thursday: Chapter 9 Polynomials #11-20 • Friday: Chapter 10 Quadratic #1-9
Chapter 10 • Quadratic function • Parabola • Parent quadratic function • Vertex • Axis of symmetry • Quadratic equation • Square Root • Perfect Square • Quadratic Formula
Quadratic Function • Is a nonlinear function that can be written in the standard form y = ax2 + bx + c where a ≠ 0.
Parabola • The U-shape graph of a quadratic function.
Parent Quadratic function • The most basic quadratic function in the family of quadratic functions is y = x2
Vertex • The lowest or highest point on a parabola.
Axis of symmetry • The line that passes through the vertex and divides the parabola into two symmetric parts.
Minimum Value • The y-coordinate of the vertex when the vertex is the lowest point.
Maximum value • The y-coordinate of the vertex when the vertex is the highest point.
Quadratic Equation • An equation that can be written in standard for ax2 + bx + c = 0
Square root • A number that produces a specified quantity when multiplied by itself.
Perfect square • The square of an integer
Quadratic formula • By completing the square for the quadratic equation ax2 + bx + c = 0 you can develop a formula:
