  2. Three years ago the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens partnered with Registered Training Organisation GlobalNet Academy to offer recognised Certificate training in horticulture. The start of a journey that is altering the landscape of education and training in the Tasmanian horticultural world. The Partnership

  3. The RTBG brought a physical site of renown and a team of qualified, skilled horticulturalists with a variety of specializations, a number with teaching experience and qualifications GlobalNet brought a business background in ICT and e-Learning, as well as the skills of an RTO The Partnership

  4. The collaborative focus brought in a new partner - Grosvenor Consultants, an educational consultancy with: • strong ties to the school sector • and particular interest in: • pathways, • transitions in to the world of work, and • how we can broaden understandings of available opportunities The Partnership

  5. Working collaboratively with others in the community Prepared to think ‘outside the box’ in developing education and training solutions.. The Partnership

  6. Industry expertise of the Gardens’ staff and other industry experts Training and practicum within the Botanical Gardens as an integral part of the learning experience The Partnership

  7. In the horticultural arena there is a real need for the development of skills, both in the commercial and domestic environments. The need

  8. The ability to produce fresh food is a life skill that many do not have; with its acquisition comes increased food security, both for individuals and communities. Shortage in skilled agricultural and horticultural labour The need

  9. Abundance of niche markets and many small enterprises, all with different training needs and levels of flexibility in regard to delivery. The need

  10. The training partnership has created a seedbed for promoting further new partnerships A number of community groups have seen the potential in working in this sort of training environment when trying to meet the needs of particular client groups Building capacity

  11. The popularity of the training programs has created a need for additional external partner workplaces to host student practical work Building capacity

  12. Community Gardens around Hobart to host projects that benefit student training and community wellbeing Hobart’s Risdon Prison day release program, working in the community gardens while receiving training in horticulture; giving back to individual communities. Building capacity

  13. Partnership with National Trust of Australia to develop a unique horticulture training program that will be based in two of the states significant Trust estates Unique projects

  14. Conservation and land management programs that meet the needs of regional Tasmanian councils Conservation

  15. Programs demonstrating the potential of the NBN and high speed Internet to deliver education and training Independent Schools Tasmania facilitated the involvement of 3 schools including the Primary Industries Trade Training Centre at Circular Head Christian School in the project. Innovative online training

  16. Programs delivered live and asynchronous through an online Moodle™ based portal. Flexible platforms for interactive sessions, for example using a roving iPad (iPad, iPhone), or a close up under a computer-connected microscope. Innovative online training

  17. This program has extended the orbit of recognised training delivery to encompass the entire State. The potential exists for running a wide variety of targeted programs using the model that was developed in the pilot. . Innovative online training

  18. The RTBG continues to be actively involved in Tasmania as a community organisation, and has been a key player in providing a variety of education opportunities to a wide range of audiences. Food Security Community programs

  19. The Tasmanian Community Food Garden will provide a new learning environment for communities interested in growing their own food, in their back yard or in a community food garden. Community learning & Engagement

  20. Certificate 1 in Agriskills has been offered alongside the development of a community food garden at the Rural Health Centre in the far north west of the state. Outreach programs
