  2. What is persuasive writing? Persuasive writing tells the writer’s opinion and why the reader should agree. Copying permitted

  3. What is the goal of persuasive writing? • to state the writer’s opinion • to give reasons why the reader should agree • to convince the reader to take action Copying permitted

  4. What topics make good persuasive writing? • Choose a topic you know something about. • Choose a topic you are interested in. • Choose a topic you have strong opinions about. Copying permitted

  5. What is a persuasive letter? • a letter meant for a specific audience • tries to convince the reader to do something • has a date, greeting, body, closing, and signature Copying permitted

  6. What are the parts of a persuasive letter? • beginning - states your opinion • middle - gives two or three reasons for your opinion • end - tells the reader what action to take Copying permitted

  7. What is the best way toorder my reasons? • least-important reason first • second-most-important reason next • strongest reason last Copying permitted

  8. Invitation to Read • Read the following persuasive letter. • Find the three reasons for the writer’s opinion. • Do you agree or disagree with the opinion? Copying permitted

  9. Brush Every Night You should brush you teeth every night before bed. Brushing removes food from your teeth. It keeps them clean and healthy. If you don’t brush enough, you could get cavities. Brushing also keeps you from getting bad breath. Brushing once a day only does half the job. You need to brush every morning and every night. Copying permitted

  10. Invitation to Write • Think about the way our main characters (Korinna and her family/Rita and her family) were treated throughout the novel. Were the Germans fair to them throughout the Holocaust? Do you think their behavior was acceptable? • Write a persuasive letter to the Gestapo officers/leaders like Hans. Try your best to get them to see your side of the issue and change their mind. • Be sure to state and support the reasons for your opinion. Copying permitted
