  2. Materials and Equipment • Each piece of equipment that we use in a science class has a specific purpose. This equipment was designed to help us receive the best data and observations. • If we would use the wrong data then we are potentially putting ourselves in danger or messing up the results of the experiment

  3. Glassware for Handling liquids • Erlenmeyer flask • Used to mix liquids, its narrow mouth prevents splashing and lessens the dispersion of noxious fumes. • Sometimes it is marked to make volume measurement, however these are approximate measurements.

  4. Glassware for Handling Liquids • Test tubes • Are used to mix, measure, or heat liquids. • Test tubes are not usually marked with measurements, so they are used to make approximate measurements.

  5. Glassware for Handling liquids • Beakers • Used to mix and heat liquids. Like and Erlenmeyer Flask, they are not intended for accurate measurement.

  6. Glassware for Handling Liquids • Eye dropper • Used to dispense small measurements of liquids.

  7. Equipment for heating • Bunsen burner • Source of gas heat.

  8. Equipment for Heating • Hot plate • Source of electrical heat.

  9. Equipment for Heating • Tongs • Used to grasp heated material

  17. Microscope Enables us to see things to small to see with the eye. 3 main components of the microscope are the arm, objectives, and the adjustment knobs. Observation Equipment

  19. Petri Dish Used to culture cells. Cell culture is a method of growing microscopic organisms. Have covers to enclose the cultured sample. Observation Equipment
