  2. Charity. • Formed 1994. • Traditional Money Advice service • Geographically bound • First 8 or 9 years established organisation and sank our roots within East End communities. Introducing GEMAP

  3. Period of reflection • How could we do better • Should we be doing something different • Forth bridge • Revolving door for clients • Accident and emergency service • Community consultation Reflecting

  4. Prevention • Education • Flexible • Bite size chunks • Lottery and Scottish Executive as was • GEMAP Financial education programme • To develop community based interventions and solutions to financial exclusion. Listening

  5. Mothers group • Debt free Christmas • EVIP Group • Schools • Community Financial Action Plan • Stoke patients Some success

  6. All of that success was built on listing to the communities we worked in. • Was a key driver in building the organisation • Employment • Health • Housing • Education • New areas. Growing

  7. EVERYBODY HAS A STRATEGY. • Proliferation of resources particularly on line. • New technology. The world has changed.

Community based organisations cede ground to statutory organisations strategic vision. • Top down rather than bottom up • Disconnect with our communities. • To integrate on going work with strategies • Raises awareness • Financial capability and inclusion is a priority Threats and Opportunities

  9. To build sustainable financial capability and inclusion within communities. The Challenge

  10. Welcome the CFE resource material for teachers. • Financial education within the Curriculum. • What then if any is the role of a community financial inclusion project within the local school. • Do we have one? • Absolutely yes Schools

  11. Supporting teachers? • Delivering sessions? • Working with small groups of students? • Engaging with the next generation of consumers Community Educators

  12. Develop peer educators • Finance partnerships involving Credit Unions, schools, banks, Numeracy and literacy projects • Finance Hubs? Community Organisers

  13. Embrace Social Media • Instigate initiatives • Share practice • Influence high level strategies from the community perspective. Community Agitators

  14. Galvanise • Inspire • Encourage Action Revolution
