Cabinet-level departments

The U.S. Cabinet comprises several key departments, each responsible for critical aspects of national governance. The State Department oversees international relations; the Treasury manages the money supply and banking; and the Defense Department protects the nation through military services. Other departments include Justice, Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, Energy, Education, Veterans Affairs, and Homeland Security, all working together to ensure the welfare, safety, and prosperity of Americans.

  2. State • Responsible for international relations with other nations

  3. Treasury • In charge of the nation’s money supply and how it’s spent; also works with banks to facilitate loans and borrowing

  4. Defense • In charge of the army, navy, coast guard, marines, air force, etc. • Protecting US from foreign invasion

  5. Justice • Monitors law enforcement across the US and is in charge of enforcing the laws created by Congress

  6. Interior • Responsible for conserving the nation’s lands, parks, and natural resources

  7. Agriculture • Assists farmers and inspects foods sold across the US

  8. Commerce • Supervises trade and the exchange of goods and services. • Also promotes tourism and business.

  9. Labor • Enforces laws that protect the rights and safety of workers. • Also publishes data to the president on unemployment rate

  10. Health/Human Services • Works to improve the living and health conditions of Americans • In charge of hospitals, medicine, welfare, etc.

  11. Housing/Urban Development • Works to improve living conditions in citites • Assistance with apartment and housing • Reduces crime in cities

  12. Transportation • Manages highways, airways, railroads, subways, sea traffic, etc.

  13. Energy • Promotes new energy alternatives and regulates the ones already in use: • Oil/gas • Coal • Nuclear • Wind • Solar • Hydroelectric • Etc.

  14. Education • Monitors actions of schools and provides resources to help students go on past high school

  15. Veterans’ Affairs • Provides services for people who have served in the armed forces • Healthcare • Pensions • Burial benefits • Etc. • Veterans Hospitals

  16. Homeland Security • Protects the US from attacks within the US • Surveillance of airports, public places, govt. buildings, etc. • Border control
