DESCRIPTION
Podocarpaceae, commonly known as Podocarps, are evergreen trees or shrubs with various leaf shapes such as linear, lanceolate, or elliptical. The male cone flowers are spike-like, single or clustered in leaf axils, with several stamens, each with 2 anthers. Female cone flowers are axillary or terminal, with a single inverted ovule. Seeds are enclosed in a thin, dry false seed coat or fleshy aril, with endosperm, 2 cotyledons, and epigeal germination. Includes species like Podocarpus, female plants, Podocarpus microphyllus, Dacrydium, Dacrydium colensoi, Acmopyle, Hainan Podocarpus, and Retrophyllum.
