  1. Surfacer

  2. General Safety • Wear your safety glasses at all times • Take off all jewelry • Do not wear loose clothing • Make sure you are the only person in the safety zone when operating the surfacer.

  3. General Safety continued • Never set material on the tables of the surfacer • Never force your material into the surfacer • Never look into the surfacer while it is in operation • If the material gets “jammed”in the surfacer, do not lower the wheel so it will finish the rest of the cut, simply shut the machine off……. BRB

  4. Components of the Surfacer • Depth Wheel • Depth Scale • Chip Guard • In-feed Table • Out-feed Table

  5. Components of the Surfacer • In-feed Rollers • Out-feed Rollers

  13. Out-feed Rollers

  14. Surface Plane • Surface Plane is defined as cutting a thin layer of material off the top face of the material to create uniform thickness

  15. Operation Procedure 1 • 1. Set the material on the depth scale to have the top of the material read “0” (zero)

  16. Operation Procedure 2 • 2. Check for loose knots, foreign material, and other defects in the material. • Make sure the material is longer than 11” • If not, a back-up board is required. • Place the flat or cupped side down on the in-feed table. The surfacer will cut the top of the material.

  17. Operation Procedure 3 • 3. Turn on the machine • Stand to the left or right of the table, not in line with the material. • Send the material through. If more than one piece needs surfacing at the same setting, more than one CAN be sent through at the same time.

  18. Operation Procedure 4 • 4. Remove the material from the out-feed table. • Return to the in-feed table. • Turn the depth wheel 1/2 turn clockwise. This is the MAXIMUM safe cut. • Feed material into the surfacer again

  19. Operation Procedure 5 • 5. Repeat step 4 until you have reached your specified thickness.
