  3. Why do you need to warm up? • Enhance your performance • Injury prevention • Mental preparation

  4. Why do you need to warm up? • Enhance your performance • Increase blood flow to muscles • Increase temperature (‘warm up’) of muscles. • Hemoglobin efficiency increases with increased temperature. As a result more oxygen can be distributed. - Faster contractions.

  5. Why do you need to warm up? • Injury prevention • Can increase tears without warm up • Heart readiness – can get abnormal heart rhythms because of low blood supply to heart!!

  7. Why do muscle fatigue? • Decreased ATP • Decreased glycogen/ lactic acid build up • Micro-trauma to muscle tissue • Dehydration mineral depletion

  8. Why do muscle fatigue? • ATP : needed for short bursts of energy. (throw, sprint) – anaerobic Released energy Stored energy Creatine is an amino acid that supplies energy to cells. CK- creatine kinase- enzyme that helps reaction occur. http://anaerobic clip

  9. Why do muscle fatigue? • Glycogen depletion- Glycolysis or aerobic respiration Cardiovascular exercise aerobic clip ‘hitting the wall’ out of energy Lactic Acid build up – b/c oxygen used up.

  10. Why do muscle fatigue? • Micro-trauma: small tears in muscle • Dehydration: water is needed for reactions to occur

  11. Why do muscle fatigue? • Mineral depletion: help with signal transmission calcium deficiency: bones weak, prone to muscular aches and cramps. magnesium deficiency: energy levels go down. Iron deficiency: is a mineral that is used in manufacturing hemoglobin. potassium deficiency: muscular aches, acne, anxiety and memory loss. Zinc deficiency: wound healing & immune system problems.
