Gwendolyn Brooks • 1917-2000 • The first African American to receive a Pulitzer Prize for Poetry • Best known for her poetic descriptions of African American city life on the South Side of Chicago. • In 1968 she was named Poet Laureate for the state of Illinois, and from 1985-86 she was Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress.

The class will record details onto the graphic organizer and guess which ad your poem is referring to.
