  13. Syllable Awareness • Identify syllables in words by tapping the beat (sometimes we encourage children to put their hand under their chin, as they say a word.) • Finish the name • Build syllables into words • Sort objects/pictures according to number of syllables

  15. Applying Syllable Awareness • In P2 and P3 we encourage children to ‘Have a go’ at using syllables, to help them to spell words independently. • Syllables ~ blocks of sound • E.g. Goblin = Gob + lin Magnet = Mag + net
