What is Easter? • Christianity tradition — the central feast of the their year • Spring Holidays • It consists of: • Maundy Thursday (today) — Last Supper of Jesus Christ • Good Friday — Crucifixion and death of Jesus • Easter Day or Easter Sunday — Ressurection Jesus after 3 days • Easter Monday • Countries celebrate differently

  3. How Czech people celebrate Easter? • Maundy Thursday — literary translation “Green Thursday” =>spinach, green beer • Good Friday— They don’t eat a meat • Easter Monday • Main celebrations • State holiday

  4. How does Easter Monday look? • Gentleman gets up early in the morning • They go usually in small groups visit girl’s houses (their friends) • After they get there, they use their tools made from a wood by themselves for little whipping (beating up) on Ladies butt  • Ladies give them in return some coloured eggs, chocolate, food and alcohol • They sit for a while, drink, eat and talk • Then they go to another house with ladies • Tradition says, this ritual ends by noon, so if the gentlemen come to ladies after noon, ladies can pull a tank of water on them…

  5. Different opinions about Easter? • Gentlemen • Free food (chocolate, chips, ….) • Free alcohol • They can beat up ladies => in addition they receive rewards • They usually have a great fun • They like this tradition • Ladies • They have to prepare all the stuff for gentleman • Wait for their coming • Not sure, they like this tradition
