  2. IWA Mission… • develop and maintain the Data Warehouse • provide a Metadata Repository -- technical descriptions -- business definitions -- helps users understand the data • deliver user training for the Warehouse

  3. IWA Team consists of… • 1 Project Leader • 4 Data Warehouse Architects • 1 Oracle Data Base Administrator • 3 Applications Analysts • 1 Brio Administrator • 1 Training and Metadata Coordinator

  4. Building a Data Mart… • Begins with a Project Agreement • Map out from Data Source to Target Tables • Develop the Extraction-Transformation-Loading (Data Stage) and Quality Checking Processes • Develop Business Definitions and Data Models • Verify the Data

  5. Metadata Application… • Displays complete Business Definitions -- Table and Views -- Columns (alphabetical order) • Web-based -- Allows for remote updating -- Dynamically-created pages– always current information • Data Models available as well

  6. Query-Analysis Tool Requirements • Web-accessible • Graphical user interface • Ad-hoc query capability • Considered many, chose Brio.Insight

  7. Brio Training… • Tool Training -- two 4-hour sessions -- developed our own training materials -- used the Sample database • Data Training -- data warehouse concepts -- data models and metadata -- 3-4 simple Brio queries -- Finance, HR, Position Control, Payroll, Accounts Receivable

  8. Security… • Data Warehouse -- controlled by the database, not the query tool -- uses object and row-level security defined in the enterprise system -- enforces row-level and data-value security through Oracle views • Brio On-Demand Server -- data models available by subject area -- users can modify existing data models

  9. Executive Dashboard… • Pivot Reports -- Finance, HR, Position Control -- provides summary, drill-down capability • Dashboard “hides” the queries and results • Brio.Insight provides “anywhere access”
