This briefing note seeks approval to amend the current export policy governing Bid Proposal Timber Sale Licences, aiming to enhance flexibility in harvesting and marketing timber. Initially, no exports were allowed from bid proposals, but the policy has relaxed over time to respond to market demands. The proposal includes moving Douglas fir into harvested surplus eligibility on the coast and making all species and grades eligible on interior bid proposals. Additional options for the export eligibility of timber on both coasts are also considered.
