  1. ARE YOU COVERED?

  2. 3 Main Points Liability Coverage Accident Coverage Volunteer Coverage

  3. Liability Insurance – Generally, covers incidents/injury resulting from a wrongful act/judgment of the insured (UK employees & volunteers – while acting within their scope of duties). This means we were at fault or contributed to the incident. All covered events/activities MUST be UK sponsored and supervised.

  4. EXAMPLES: **4-Her gets hurt playing on a swing that the agent/leader believed could be faulty.**Farm Field Day hayride tips over after agent/volunteer drives over steep dip or hill.**Top comes off a pressure canner during a canning demonstration and agent/volunteer instructor was aware of a cut in the seal.

  5. Coverages: KaCo General Liability Insurance (must be purchased by counties) **Does have exclusions such as livestock, shooting sports, farm equipment, etc. **Counties want Errors & Omissions coverage – decision making errors **Counties want Non-owned Auto coverage – for transportation in an employee’s & leader’s personal vehicle. UK Risk Management does not cover this at all! KaCo coverage is primary for this. **Read your declarations page and policy for coverage and exclusions. UK Risk Management (Provided by UK) **Covers liability with exception of motorized watercraft – does pickup those exclusions from KaCo such as shooting sports, livestock, etc. **UK Risk Management recommends excess coverage for accidents – especially for high risk activities/events. **Contact Information: Todd Adkins, twadki2@email.uky.edu, (859-257-3708) for questions

  6. Accident Insurance – Generally, covers incidents/injury resulting from accidents – no fault of employees/volunteers in charge. Covers those accidents/injuries which may not be covered by liability insurance plan.

  7. EXAMPLES: (1) Two 4-Her’s get hurt while horse playing at a 4-H event/activity. Horseplay is an exclusion under both liability policies.(2) Farmer burns himself while grilling for a Livestock Association event/activity.(3) Homemaker nearly cuts finger off and needs stitches while helping agent/other Homemakers prepare for the Annual Meeting.

  8. Possible Accident Coverages: ** Generally covers accidents and injuries where there is no liability on the part of the UK employee or volunteer -- trips, falls, horseplay, “accidents”, etc. 1.Can purchase Accident Coverage through KaCo or other insurance carrier. Contact agent for more information and quote. Can purchase American Income Life www.AmericanIncomeLife.com **Can cover entire clubs – both leaders and participants – all activities – all year long **Can cover specific events/activities as well **Covers primary or secondary whichever is best for injured Excess Insurance (can be purchased through UK Risk Management) www.uky.edu/EVPFA/Controller/risk.htm **Cover on a per event basis **Covers both participants & leaders

  9. Volunteer Insurance – Provides additional accident, liability and auto coverage for VOLUNTEERS while performing their volunteer duties. It is important to consider whether or not you have insurance that will cover injuries/accidents to the volunteers themselves. Liability policies do NOT cover injuries to volunteers while they are acting in a leadership role! Instead - -volunteers are considered UK employees and therefore not covered for injuries to themselves.

  10. Volunteer insurance provides “accident/personal injury” coverage that is excluded for volunteers in leadership roles AS WELL AS additional liability and auto coverage. Available for $11.50-$17.75 per volunteer/per year through Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service @ www.volunteerKY.ky.gov.
