  3. DO NOW Take a moment and answer the following question: Why do bad things happen to good people?

  4. The Book of Job What do you already know about The Book of Job?

  5. The Book of Job • No one is sure who wrote it • Written sometime between 700-300 B.C. • Doesn’t really fit in the Old Testement • Not in the Torah • The First Novella • Major Stylistic Differences • A mix of prose and verse

  6. The Book of Job Essentially, The Book of Job is another story about G-d testing Man. Where else have we seen this idea? Is it fair for G-d to test the faith of his people?

  7. The Book of Job Take a few minutes to read The Book of Job Chapters 1-3 Things to look for: What kind of a man is Job? Why are bad things happening to him? How does he react?

  8. The Book of Job What is Satan trying to prove? What is G-d trying to prove?

  9. The Book of Job With the person sitting next to you, you will answer the following questions: How is G-d treating Job? Why does G-d test Job’s faith? What is the turning point for Job? What do you think of G-d’s treatment of Job?

  10. The Book of Job Let me hear what the pairs came up with: How is G-d treating Job? Why does G-d test Job’s faith? What is the turning point for Job? What do you think of G-d’s treatment of Job?

  11. The Book of Job Put yourself in Job’s shoes. Would you give up faith and curse the day you were born?

  12. The Book of Job Let’s go back to the Do Now. Why do bad things happen to good people? What did Job do to deserve this treatment? How does this story affect the characterization of G-d?

  13. Homework Read Job, Chapters 38-42 and address the EQ on the turnitin.com discussion board.
