  2. INTRODUCTION The main goal in creating an effective newspaper is to learn about what the reader wants. Learning about their attitudes, values, and interests are some key ways to draw the attention of readers. Developing loyal readers could very well be known as the ultimate marketing goal for newspapers. Our research is to determine how the Monadnock Ledger can more effectively obtain FPC student readers.

  3. PROBLEM STATEMENT Research is necessary to identify if the Tab section of the Monadnock Ledger meets the needs of its readers and the extent of readership on campus. In addition, it is necessary to research any suggestions and/or input FPC students have to improve the TAB.

  4. Research Objectives 1. Determine the readership of the Tab section on campus 2. Assess if the Tab is meeting the needs of FPC students 3. Analyze the students’ suggestions to improve the Tab 4. Evaluate the distribution and circulation on the Tab

  5. SURVEY After taking a moment to look over the TAB section of the Monadnock Ledger, please take a few moments to answer these questions. We are conducting this survey as part of our marketing research project. This survey is completely anonymous and all individual results will be kept confidential. 1.   6. METHODOLOGY • Sample size of 100 students *The total Franklin Pierce College, Rindge students are 1578 for the fall of 2002. (Admissions Department)

  17. LIMITATIONS • The lack of students’ knowledge about the Monadnock Ledger Tab section. • Time • Lack of knowledge of SPSS • Students’ lack of interest in responding to surveys

  18. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Our research demonstrated that the Monadnock Ledger does not meet the needs of FPC students. In addition our research shows that there are several areas of interest that students would like to see addressed in the Tab section. The majority of students were interested in information about off-campus/area events and campus sports. The majority of students would be interested in reading the Tab section if it was offered online and/or distributed more widely around campus, and specifically in the campus center.
