    3. SAF/XC Organizational History Over the past couple of years, we have had three major IT organizations within the Air Force since 2002. In 2005, we klugged all three together to stand up SAF/XC. Each organization had functional strengths that it brought to the table. AF/XI which was brought about by Gen Jumper was primarily focused on Air and Space C4ISR AF-CIO was focused on Business Process and systems modernization AF/ILC provides Day-to-Day Communications Operations support...AF/A6 The melding of the CIO, ILC, and XI provides a single organization for integrating warfighting integration IT capabilities, information resource management, policy formulation, and integration of current and emerging technologies to meet the Chiefs vision of shortening the kill chain and providing speed, precision, and lethal effects in the battlespace. 6. SAF/XC Priorities Win Todays Fight Providing integrated C2 and global connectivity are critical for our forces fighting the GWOT. SAF/XCs approach cuts across C4ISR, Operational Support, and Network Operations: C4ISR were fielding the Air Operations Center and setting the strategy for an integrated airborne network. Operational Support were using Global Combat Support System to provide a one-stop-shop for combat support applications and information. Network Operations were providing global connectivity through satellite communication and the Combat Information Transport System. Were also defending the network through our various security initiatives.Providing integrated C2 and global connectivity are critical for our forces fighting the GWOT. 7. SAF/XC Priorities Take Care of Our People As were delivering war-winning capabilities and modernizing our force, were not going to lose focus on our number one asset our people. XC has a three-part approach to this: Job Satisfaction were giving Airmen the tools needed to do their jobs more effectively and efficiently. For example, were making data easier to find through our transparency effort, and using modeling and simulation to provide operational training. Quality of Life were helping improve your quality of life with the Air Force Portal, which serves as your one stop shop for nearly all your human resource services (e.g., pay, finance, leave). Were also making deployments and PCSs easier through a single email address for life no disruptions in service! Identity Protection were ensuring that your personal information and identity are protected through initiatives like the Common Access Card logon. 8. SAF/XC Priorities Prepare for Tomorrows Challenges Recapitalizing and modernizing is about becoming more efficient, capable, and lethal. Were going to take a hard look at our business processes and only do whats value added. Were going to systematically get rid of the waste in our organization. Were also going to consolidate functionality of some of our legacy systems and undergo some force shaping. XC looks at recapitalization and modernization across people, processes, and technology: People were transforming the C&I career field to deliver the right mix of communication and information professionals with the right skills throughout the Air Force. Processes were undergoing process improvement initiatives using methodologies like Lean and Six Sigma. Were also focused on governance and portfolio management to effectively manage resources and capability portfolios. Technology were developing systems with common standards using enterprise architectures to reduce development costs and improve interoperability.
