  2. Where do the Hopi Indians live? The Hopi Indians live in northeast Arizona at the southern end of the Black Mesa. A mesa is a name given to a small isolated flat topped hill. This hill has 3 steep sides called the 1st mesa, the 2nd mesa, and the 3rd mesa. On the top of the mesas are the Hopi villages called pueblos. (Here is a picture of a Hopi Indian house >)

  3. What did the Hopi Indians eat/ grow? • The Hopi Indians raised corn or maize as the basic food. They also grew as well as ate beans, squash, melons, pumpkins, and fruit. They also based religious ceremonies on the corn they grew. Also they grew 24 different kinds of corn. The most common corn was white and blue corn. • (Here is a picture of “ blue corn”)

  4. What clothing did the Hopi Indians wear? • The Hopi Indians made clothing out of animal skins, cotton, wool, and fabric. Women mostly wore a un dyed cotton robe with an embroidered belt. The men wore an un dyed short sleeved or sleeveless shirt that was worn like a poncho. They also wore leggings cut off just above the knees, and moccasins made of deer skin.

  5. What kinds of weapons/ tools did the Hopi Indians use? • Hopi hunters used bows, arrows, and large sticks. The Hopis did not go to war often, though Hopi warriors did sometimes have to defend their territory against the Spanish and Navajos. When this happened, they normally fired their bows or fought with spears. Hopi tools included wooden farm implements, spindles and looms for weaving cotton, wool, and pump drills for boring holes in turquoise and other beads.
