Guiding Investments in Sustainable Agricultural Markets in Africa (GISAMA)

This is the work plan meeting for the GISAMA project, held in Livingstone on May 21-22, 2009. The meeting focuses on the intersection of regional trade in food staples and agricultural growth, with joint activities between COMESA and MSU for 2009. The objectives of GISAMA are to identify strategic investment opportunities in food marketing systems to increase rural incomes and assess the impact of public interventions on markets, smallholder welfare, and food security. The outputs of GISAMA include identifying priority investments and actions for smallholder farmers in maize, cassava, horticulture, and cotton value chains, assessing the impacts of road improvement and market information systems on crop production and marketing, and providing research results to inform CAADP-relevant public expenditure strategies and donor investment priorities.
