  1. MIRS Operational Status at OSDPD Limin Zhao October 31, 2008

  2. MIRS v3.0 Implementation Status Updates • Implemented into operation on Oct 27, 2008 • The documents is in final review • CLASS DSA is updated to reflect the v3.0 changes • Generating the SSMIS TPW global composite for NESDIS Satellite Analysts (Aiwu Li). • Developing a netCDF encoder. We will work with the Walter’s group, and make reuse of their codes when applicable (Jiang Zhao). • MSPPS-like daily products with Cylindrical and Polar Stereographic map projectionsare available to user for testing. • Users • Satellite Analysis Branch Precip Team – evaluating the MIRS TPW • CIRA – evaluating the MIRS TPW product, and will merge it into the blended TPW product in future. • FNMOC – put request through Shared Processing Gateway for the MIRS products in preparing the transition from MSPPS to MIRS. • NCDC – interested in SSMIS land surface temperature and land surface emissivity products, and need a daily product. • Need a higher resolution products, especially for rain rate.

  3. NOAA-N’ Readiness • MSPPS and MIRS NOAA-N’ Readiness • Scheduled to launch on Feb 4, 2009 • Satellite Identifier will be NP • No format changes • Test data will be available soon (TBD, Nov ) • Readiness kick-off meeting will be hold from 10 to 11:30 in NSOF room 2007 on Nov 5, 2008. • Need a schedule for MIRS/MSPPS L-90 and L+90 activities • For MSPPS, Wanchun and Jiang will take leads for the preparation. • What need be done to get MIRS ready? Can the Dec delivery include the capability to process NOAA-N’?

  4. MSPPS transition to MIRS • Resolution • All MIRS products are in AMSU FOV • MSPPS are in both AMSU-A and AMSU-B/MHS FOVs • Users like to keep the data in its original resolution, especially for RR products, but have no problem to go from low to high resolution if the product quality can be ensured • Like to have the high resolution capability in place in the next delivery, so OSDPD can examine the IT resource and its related cost for the capacity planning purpose. • Meanwhile, can the codes be improved to do better? • Satellites • MSPPS products from 5 satellites, and user requests at least N18, MetOp-A and N15/N16 • MIRS products from N18 and MetOp-A • Request for products, especially RR, from a mid-morning or late-afternoon satellite, N15/N16/F17, to ensure optimal capability of capturing the diurnal cycle. • What need be done to get MIRS to process N15 or N16 data? The effort estimate. • User Readiness • Notification has send to users on the potential schedule for the transition • Key users are for the rain rate product, so the real user might be expected in late of FY09 • Archive • All MIRS products are in AMSU FOV
