History of Act & OSHA • In 1970, Congress considered these annual figures: • 14,000 worker deaths • 2.5 million workers disabled • 300,000 new occupational disease cases • Signed OSH Act into law by President Nixon • OSH Act created OSHA RJR Safety Inc
Employer and Employee • OSH Act defines an employer is any “…person engaged in a business affecting commerce who has employees, but does not include the United States or any State or political subdivision of a State.” • Also, defined as contractor or subcontractor in 29CFR1926 • Either an employer or employee!
