  2. HOW TO APPLY FOR STUDENT FINANCE? • On-line application form • www.gov.uk/studentfinance • Student Helpline - 0845 300 5090 • Register and apply online • Student Calculator – gives you an idea • Can start applying online……..TBC

  3. TUITION FEES • For 2013/2014 the tuition fees are up to £9,000 per year. • Check exact fee with University

  4. FINANCE AVAILABLE • Tuition Loan • Maintenance Loan • Maintenance Grant • Bursaries • Scholarships and Awards

  5. TUITION LOAN • A tuition loan will pay the tuition fees for the course you are going on to. • You will not pay this back until you are earning over £21,000 per year. • The interest rate you pay is linked to inflation so will be minimal. • Paid directly to the University/College

  6. MAINTENANCE GRANT • Is non repayable • If your household income is under £25,000 you would get the full entitlement, up to £3,354 • If you household income is between £25,001 and £42,000 you will get a partial grant • Paid at the start of each term – usually straight into bank account

  7. MAINTENANCE LOAN • To help with the accommodation and living costs • Repayable when earning over £21,000 • Student Finance will pay the money into your bank account in three instalments – one at the start of each term

  8. BURSARIES • Extra financial help from your university • Non repayable • Speak to the university to see what they could offer you

  9. NHS BURSARIES • The university will inform the NHS Student Bursaries that you have been offered a place. • NHS Student Bursaries will then send application forms out to you.

  10. SOCIAL WORK BURSARIES • Social work bursary application forms are available to download • www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/841.aspx • Check with individual Universities whether you have any tuition fees to pay or not??? • Still apply through www.gov.uk for extra money and to be assessed.

  11. SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS • Some universities and colleges offer scholarships, e.g. University of Leicester • These can be based on income, results or other criteria • Speak to the university for further details
