Emily Quan, 28oct Your feet are your body’s foundation.  As you age, your feet must compete with many ailments.  They are often overlooked and forgotten about until discomfort is felt.  Keeping them healthy is vital to your overall health.  One way to soothe these difficulties is by getting pedicures.  But many people have the misconception that pedicures are a pampering treat for women only. Most have an image of what a pedicure is but they do not realize there are different qualities of foot treatments.  The most POWERED BY

Being properly trained in sanitation, disinfection and sterilization are also covered in detail as it is important in a place where cross contamination is easily achieved.  Not every foot treatment is equal since the depth of knowledge differs between every practitioner.  Not everyone has advanced certification.  This is especially important for Seniors.   They have extremely thin skin, may be on certain medications and have other existing conditions. Years of wear and tear can be hard on the feet and proper foot care may be hard to achieve for Seniors.  Loss of mobility, eyesight and range of hand motion may hamper what they can do.  They are also prone to various foot issues such as corns, misshapen toes and nails, bunions and other infections.  Overuse of the feet, shoes that do not fit properly and genetics can lead to injuries and disorders of the foot that can impact their mobility.  One major issue many Seniors have is the thickening of their toenails.  The growth rate for toenails slows down which results in the nail cells to start piling up, also known as onychocytes.  While it is due to aging, there are many other factors that can contribute to this.  Such as circulation problems, fungal infections and repeated trauma done to the nail. Without the proper tools, it would be very hard to trim or grind the nail down.  Not knowing how or the lack of tools may result in removing too much of the nail or thinning out an already brittle nail which can cause pain or an infection. Diabetes is another issue that afflicts Seniors.  An estimated 1.2 million people 65+ have been diagnosed and it is the 6th leading direct cause of death.  One of the most common problems with diabetic feet is the development of ulcers and infection that could set in if the esthetician did not properly identify this and still worked on the foot.  Loss of sensation in the foot is also a common issue.  This could hinder the foot from properly protecting itself as the individual might not be aware of any problems.  A diabetic client can be quite challenging as they are quite vulnerable to injury.  Decreased circulation allows the slightest break in the skin to be a doorway for bacteria and fungi to enter, causing a quick infection to occur.  With the lack of blood circulating, healing is impaired and may lead to greater complications. Most people do not know there is an alternative to a podiatrist.  While a Certified Master Pedicurist® in Vancouver is not a doctor, they are a cost-effective alternative to a podiatrist.  So, do not forget that your feet are one of the hardest working parts of your body but most often neglected.  Your feet should be well cared for, not only in appearance but also to function to its best ability.  A foot care treatment received at regular intervals (usually between four to six weeks) can reduce the chance for some common foot problems.  So, look for a Certified Master Pedicurist® today and receive the best care and service you deserve.    Enchanted Services for Every Occasion Facials Tinting Waxing Microderm Massage Lash Lift & Brow Lamination POWERED BY
