Olympic games The  Olympic Games are a world wide event featuring summer and winter sports in which thousands of athletes around the world participate in many competitions e.g. swimming, shot-put, fencing and many more. The Olympic Games are said to be the world's most sports competition with more than 200 nations competing. The Games are currently held every four years in different countries, with summer andwinter Olympic games. Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic games, which were held in Olympia, Greece , from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.

Olympic facts • Real Gold MedalsThe last Olympic gold medals that were made entirely out of gold were awarded in 1912. • The First Opening CeremoniesThe first opening ceremonies were held during the 1908 Olympic Games in London. • A City, Not a CountryWhen choosing locations for the Olympic Games, the IOC specifically gives the honour of holding the Games to a city rather than a country. • Womenwere first allowed to participate in 1900 at the second modern Olympic Games
