  2. Key competencies • Communication in mother tongue - pupils develop understanding of word patterns and rhyme • Mathematical literacy - pupils are introduced to the idea of time • Digital competence - pupils practice using digital cameras to take photographs as evidence of their work • Interpersonal - pupils work together in groups to solve problems

  3. Learning intentions • Pupils enjoy exploring sound patterns in words through reading and watching text • Pupils use sight vocabulary, phonics and punctuation to build and decode text • Pupils realise that clocks and time help us to order the day • Pupils work with a partner sharing ideas and learning from one another • Pupils become familiar with use of digital camera

  4. Context and activities • Pupils use the nursery rhyme Hickory, Dickory, Dock as the basis for the lesson. The rhyme is read from a book of nursery rhymes and then a version of the rhyme on youtube is shown to the class. • Children work in pairs to practice building sentences using knowledge of capital letters, full stops and phonetics to help them get the words in the correct order. • Pupils then put the sentences in the correct order to make the rhyme. • Pupils have the opportunity to say and to sing the nursery rhyme. • Children make finger mice for a Hickory, Dickory, Dock display and take part in painting the clock. • Pupils have the opportunity to continue the rhyme making their own verses following the pattern and structure of the original. • Pupils have the opportunity to move in response to the music. • Pupils use computer program to draw pictures to illustrate rhyme.
