  10. What is Supply Chain Management? Let’s give this a try, who wants to volunteer to give your definition of Supply Chain Management? What is a poll? How to you contribute? Let’s try a poll!

  11. Discussion Question 1 • Planning is a vital function of management. What types of planning have you been involved in? • What levels of planning involve operations managers? • What kind of decisions are made at the various levels?

  12. Discussion 1-Review of ConceptsThree levels of planning that involve operations managers are: • Business plan: It establishes production and capacity strategies. • Production plan: It establishes production capacity and intermediate term aggregate production schedule. • Master schedule: It establishes schedules for specific products (disaggregation of production plan). • Let’s try a poll!

  13. Discussion Question 2 What is aggregate planning? Why is there a need for aggregate planning? Let’s give some examples.

  14. Discussion 2-Review of Concepts • The need for aggregate planning is to begin to translate long-term decisions into short-term operating plans. • Aggregate planning constitutes the intermediate step in this process. • Let’s try a poll!

  15. Discussion Question 3 How do demand and capacity affect aggregate planning? What options does the planner have to work with if demand and capacity changes? Please provide an example.

  16. Discussion 3-Review of Concepts • In both manufacturing and service, managers can vary the size of the workforce and subcontract work. • Manufacturers have the additional option of varying the size of inventories. • Let’s try a poll!

  17. Discussion Question 4 What is (Manufacturing Requirements Planning) MRP? When is MRP appropriate? Please provide examples.

  18. Discussion 4-Review of Concepts • MRP is appropriate when requirements planning must be accomplished for items with derived demand. • It is best suited to situations in which demand is “lumpy” rather than continual, and where lead times are fairly well known. • Let’s try a poll!

  19. MRP Inputs MRP Processing MRP Outputs Changes Order releases Master schedule Planned-order schedules Primary reports Exception reports Bill of materials Planning reports MRP computer programs Secondary reports Performance- control reports Inventory records Inventory transaction Overview of MRP

  20. Competencies Covered Identify the variables that influence aggregate planning Identify strategies for developing aggregate plans that bridge strategic planning and short range scheduling Identify factors that apply to aggregate planning Recognize and apply the concepts that derive MRP

  21. Review-How to Keep the Material Fresh Attend next session(s) Review your notes Review the readings Re-take pre assessment after all sessions are covered in the areas you scored under 65% Review archived sessions as needed
