Warrnambool Automotive Industry Committee IPP. • Increase students and teachers understanding of the career opportunities in the Warrnambool Automotive industry. • Assist in developing a plan redressing the skill shortage in the Automotive industry. • Examine our own school technology curriculum in light of the IPP – specifically incorporating skill sets in demand by employers.
Skills Shortage: • Industry not attracting students with the right skill sets in terms of ability, problem solving skills, work ethic, learning skills to be successful in this industry. • Typically costs the Employer $40,000 pa to train an Apprentice.
Skills Shortage: • Employers experiencing difficulty in selecting suitable students and lack an understanding of the “Y” generation in terms of work flexibility and employer expectations. • Solution: Establishment of the WAIC in 2006 to act as a forum to discuss these issues and propose solutions.
