Poor Codes Cost Money without Improving Safety • $6 billion a year wasted in operational costs because of unnecessary codes and standards • $10 billion a year wasted in capital costs because of unnecessary codes and standards • Small things could have a profound effect nationwide • $50 perUS citizen per year

Adoption of Unified Codes • Working on long term plan to develop a unified set of recommended codes for adoption • Objectives • Improve quality and increase access to healthcare using cost savings from conflicting, unnecessary and costly codes and regulations with little ROI • With unified voice, backed by identified values, leading the change to national codes.

  7. Communication of Regulatory Issues • ASHE learns about local issues from chapter advocacy liaisons • Advocacy liaisons learn about national issues from ASHE www.ashe.org/advocacyhighway

  8. Advocacy Liaisons • Advocacy leaders can help – but they have to know about the problem. • Communications through the Advocacy Highway are critical. • Advocacy Liaisons or Chapter Presidents must attend quarterly conference calls

  18. Succession Planning Our Challenge: • The health care facility management field has an aging workforce • 2012 Salary Survey showed 40% of health care facility managers were older than 55 • Little awareness among younger generations of the health care facility management profession

ASHE Internship Program • ASHE and Schneider Electric have teamed up to create the ASHEinternship program • Develop University relationships and identify intern candidates • Support ASHE member and chapter participation in hosting interns • Create a program to promote the profession and sustain the future workforce www.ashe.org/internship
